Try something a little different - work with Paddy Power

Ross O'Mullane, Televisionary!! I studied IT at college, worked in student marketing, joined an E-commerce Start-up, worked in the travel industry and did a bit of freelance consulting before coming to Paddy Power. In February 2005, I was helping out a former employer pitching an interactive gaming product to TV stations when a poker buddy sent me a link for a Casino Marketing Manager job at Paddy Power. I penned a cover letter, sent in my beautifully presented CV and was dragged in for an interview. The Casino manager was less than interested, but the Poker Manager realised the brilliance behind my harsh exterior (I didn’t have the moustache back then).

I became the third employee on the Poker team as Online Marketing Manager and after proving myself at that was promoted to Marketing Manager.

Paddy Power will often create new businesses as a hub unit which is great because you get the passion and energy of a start-up environment with the benefits of the capital, brand, knowledge and expertise of a much larger organisation.

Since early 2005, I’ve worked on some truly amazing projects – created poker TV programmes and implemented major advertising campaigns. Every year I manage the production of the Irish Open TV series which is one of our biggest brand spends.

It sounds corny (yes they made me write this bit) but there is a great atmosphere in the office here, everyone’s up for a laugh and they’re really supportive of ideas. People will wander around the office and bounce ideas and concepts off each other – it’s really kinda fun.

Not that I’m ageist, but the team are really young in here as well –all the directors are under 40 years old, you feel they fully understand the web, are cool with the kids and will understand even the most stupidest of ideas – which is refreshing and means that we can do some very funky and innovative stuff.

Because I’m looking for a raise I’d like to say that all the management in here are really smart (well they hired me after all) and their super intelligence means they can always stay a step ahead of the game, which makes everyone’s life easier.

Nowadays I'm responsible for all video content created by the company, we produce anything from TV series that air on national broadcasters, to 30 second betting-tips-videos for the website. It's massively exciting in that we can do just about anything - great fun, AND they pay me.
