 As a life ling Evertonian, my previous role in the commercial team at Everton Football Club was seen by many as the dream job. Working on major deals including the main shirt sponsors and new stadium plans, having dealings with first team players on a regular basis, away days and European tours were all normal duties! In January 2009, I was contacted about a role in Paddy Power’s online casino team – some distance away from my comfort zone!

After some careful research I quickly decided that it was the right time for me to make the next step. A move to the Irish capital city quickly beckoned and I packed up my car and made the trip across the pond. I knew it would be a whole new world for me as I knew nothing about gambling and betting. That was the whole point. Paddy Power is not ‘just a bookie’ and an ability to think outside the box creatively and bring fresh perspectives and experience to a vastly growing department was an essential part of the role I was going to fill. The opportunity to work for a fast paced company with a great reputation for being ‘one step ahead’ was enough to lure me away from my boyhood heros.

The move was almost seamless, aside from the similarities Liverpool and Dublin share, the people within Paddy Power couldn’t have been more helpful. A real community and family feel (I know it sounds cheesy but it honestly is true) greeted me and numerous people helped me through the various stages of setting my life up in Ireland.

Life has been good to me from then on. Two years and one promotion in and I’m currently managing the marketing team for the Online Casino. After studying law in university my life has taken somewhat of a directional change and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m not a ‘2+2=4’ type of person (not for one minute suggesting that all lawyers are), the answer for me isn’t always found in a text book, I like to push the boundaries, argue my cause, prove my point and I couldn’t have found a better company to work for! Paddy Power has allowed me to develop skills I never had and helped me polish them thanks to numerous training courses.
