Lynsey Thornton, Lead UX Analyst

Back in early 2008 I was approached by a recruiter for a role on the UX (User Experience) team in Paddy Power’s Online Development department. I’d studied Multimedia Technology and E-Commerce in University and spent time working in design & project management, but was looking for a more creative role. I wanted to work for a young, progressive online company and Paddy Power seemed a perfect fit.

Today I lead the user research side of the UX team. It's our job to make sure that the developments the business owners and analysts are planning are in line with what the customers want and need. So we spend a lot of time speaking to customers and getting their input on our new designs & functionality. It's a great area of the business to work in as you are involved in so many of Paddy Power's different on-line product businesses. One day you could be working on the design of a new Casino website, the next you could be talking to customers about how they place bets on their iphone.

In my opinion, (and its no big secret) the biggest things Paddy Power has going for it are its culture and staff. The offbeat humour of the brand is really reflected in the employees, and there’s always banter in and out of the office. There's a great collective team spirit and work atmosphere, particularly when a big sporting event is on. Friends who work in corporate environments are always jealous when I tell them about something random that happened that day - whether it's senior management having a piggyback race in the car park, or a free ice cream van turning up outside the office!!

A common misconception about Paddy Power is that it’s “just a bookies”. It’s far more than that. It's a thriving online gaming company with interesting roles, great career opportunities and a really bright future. Throw in a few pints every now and again and what more could you ask for?
