I started in Paddy Power at the end of 2004 with a Hotel Management Degree and a Diploma in Financial Studies from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in my pocket. After a many years practical experience in the hospitality industry I was looking for a new challenge and Paddy Power was offering me a fresh start working on newly launched online products in a fast developing company.
I applied for a position in a newly created customer support team for Casino, Poker and Games - Three products which varied significantly from Paddy Power’s traditional online sports betting offering at the time. I got the job as customer support agent and quickly worked my way up to supervisor and then manager of the team. Working in customer support is quite an eye opener and makes you understand your customers’ needs and motivators better than any other role in the company. No two days are ever the same and the knowledge of the customer base I have gained in two years will stand me well in other parts of the organisation.
About 18 months ago, I started to specialise in one area, Casino and Games. I was soon promoted into the newly created role of Casino Operations Executive. Today, I manage all Operations of the online Casino at Paddy Power. Customers spending significant amounts of money on the site expect a smoothly run product and it’s a stimulating challenge each and every day. There is always something new to get stuck into and my work is never dull!
Today, I see so many additional new faces and older faces moving up, which is great because it shows there is a strong chance to be promoted. I know that there is always the opportunity to grow within the company, and for an Irish business like Paddy Power….the sky is the limit.
